Search Engines don't have problems crawling and understanding the sites and visitors certainly don't seem to be affected by the validation issues. First and foremost, the user experience dictates the success/ failure of a website, as does marketing & search-ability, and I simply can't see a reason why, when graphical development programs can't comply with w3c, it should come very high up the list of objectives. In essence, if Microsoft can't adhere to open standards when developing a browser, how can we be expected to design a site that's going to? Finally, with page speed becoming an ever more important key in the development of websites, user experience, time on site & bounce rates dictating content, I think w3c compliance will drop further down the list of priorities for developers.
